Tears are dripping from my tired eyes one by one onto cold, wet concrete. I’m in a bomb shelter in occupied Mariupol. I have been on the verge of life and death for two months.
Once, the sky was our salvation. People turned to the sky, pleading for justice. The sky could love — but could also deliver just punishment. People went to the heavens to rest in peace.
On the 17th of October 2022, a Russian bomb fell on a building in Kyiv downtown, not only taking the lives of innocent people but also ruining a 120-year-old architectural monument.
A few years ago, in 2016, to be precise, I was curating a Ukrainian event at one of the biggest European literary festivals.
If you have been following the recent chronicles of the Russian terrorist attacks on peaceful Ukrainian civilians, you surely have heard of Vinnytsia.
I used to have a friend in Poland who owned a small travel agency, offering original exotic (from the European point of view) trips to the East (of the EU), to Ukraine in particular.
If the rumors are true, then the Russian leader plans to celebrate “victory” in Ukraine as part of this year’s Victory Day celebrations. The only problem with this plan is that there is not going to be a victory in Ukraine.
War is not a movie. Not a book. Not a song.
